Weddings

Pricing

For eight continuous hours of coverage, weddings begin at $1,095. Every hour thereafter is an additional $125.

Prices include my travel time (within a 35-mile radius of Brookfield, Wis.), any and all photographic services, post-processing and editing time, and a DVD of high-resolution, edited images accompanied by a release to print. A private, online gallery of a limited number of images hosted on my website is also an option, if you so desire.

The DVD of images will be mailed to you no later than 30 days after the date of your wedding. Although you will have the right to make prints on your own, I offer a variety of products including photographic prints, canvas wraps, gallery wraps, float wraps and albums, just to name a few.

To discuss specific, individual needs, please contact me for additional information.

WAIT! You're not done reading quite yet ... :)

What you should know

First. Wedding photography is not for the weak. It's also not for your second-cousin-who-just-bought-a-new-camera-and-would-like-to-test-it-out-at-your-wedding. Come on, friends: This is the most important day of your life. Don't skimp. Not today. Besides, your second cousin would rather be busting a move on the dance floor. (Shhhhh, I didn't tell you.)

Second. I look forward to your wedding day almost as much as if it were my own. I love to see happy people. I love to see love. I love to document life. Happy people, in love, on the most important day of their lives? The best.

Third. My approach is entirely journalistic. It's my background and it's here to stay. It's not a buzzword; it's my heart. With several years of experience at various newspapers, I've been in situations twice as stressful as your wedding day. Trust me. I know what to do if my camera won't click. I know who to call if Grandma knocks over my lens. And I can adapt to every personality under the sun.

You'll never hear me say, "I didn't get that shot. Can the ring bearer be totally adorable again?" I don't pose, I don't pretend, and I don't cheese it up. I let you be you. My camera documents the rest.

Posed family photos after the ceremony are fine: I know that's what Mom and Dad want for their photo albums. But don't expect to spend any more than an hour on the family shots. (That way, there will be more time for you to take in your day, and more opportunity for me to take the photos that just might change Mom and Dad's mind.) :)

Fourth. If you hire me, I (Katie Derksen) will be your photographer. No one else. I don't have any interns. I don't have anyone working under me. And I won't stick you with someone who's "learning." I will be there, at your side, working. The pictures you see on this site are mine. All mine. If you hire me, you'll know exactly what you're getting.

Thinking you might want a second shooter for your special day? That's a great idea. I team up with some great photographers from time to time. Ask me for details. Two is better than one.

Finally. So you've read this far. Congrats! Thank you for not falling asleep. Give me a call or shoot me an e-mail. It's meant to be! I would be absolutely honored to document your special day. Let's chat and make pretty pictures.
