"I couldn't see anything," said Gloria Mullinax, of Lady Lake, Fla. "Smoke was just choking me. I was trying to get in." Mullinax covers her face in sorrow Monday, Nov. 27, 2006; her husband, Samuel, died Sunday evening when the couple's Lady Lake home started on fire. Gloria was not home when the fire started. Samuel, 67, was a retired firefighter.
     
  
Cpt. Tim Patterson, a Franklin police officer from New Berlin, is reunited with his 8-year-old daughter, Abby, shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at General Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee, Wis. Due to inclement weather, Patterson's flight into Milwaukee was delayed nearly six hours. Approximately 15 family members, including Patterson's wife, Margie, and his father, Jerry, gathered at the airport to welcome home the soldier. Patterson has returned from a one-year tour of duty overseas, where he served as a member of the military police in Afghanistan. Patterson will be returning to his position with the Franklin Police Department in mid-February.
  
Brian Litz, the 7-year-old son of the deceased Dep. Brian Litz, touches the hand of his father's statue Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, shortly after an unveiling ceremony, held in Ocala, Fla. Litz was gunned down by an elderly man in February 2004. The statue stands as a constant reminder of officer safety, honor, integrity and loyalty to the fallen officer.
